ABRUZZO, ITALY

ABOUT ABRUZZO

Abruzzo is like my second home. The land of wonders and hidden gems, treasures. This centrally located Italian region is considered Europe’s green lung, thanks to its several natural parks and nature reserves. You will immediately recognize that you have arrived at a location which is like Italy in small, in one region. You can find everything you look for here: mountains, beautiful reserves, pure nature, amazing views, the Trabocchi Coast, lakes and rivers, breathtaking waterfalls. Not to mention the kind locals (Abruzzese), who recall themselves strong and kind (forte e gentile). Obviously, we cannot forget about the divine local cuisine either. Have you tried the arrosticini and a glass of Montepulciano

WHAT I LOVE THE MOST

I really love the region’s location: 1,5 hours drive from Rome, easy access to the airports and other main Italian cities. Thanks to the small size of the region, traveling around Abruzzo is also very convenient. While enjoying a nice day at the seaside, you can reach the mountains within a 20-30 min car drive. The well-preserved medieval and renaissance hill towns, villages stole my heart and attention immediately I visited them. Just as the spectacular waterfalls all around Abruzzo. If arrosticini, for me just the “di fegato” (liver) one, and I would never say no for a nice glass of Cerasuolo.

MY FAVORITE 6 THINGS in ABRUZZO

  • Small towns and villages around the Province of L’Aquila and the city itself;
  • Arrosticini di fegato at Somari, Pescara;
  • Waterfalls of Valle dell’Orfento;
  • Aperitivo at Bar La Castagna, Fara Filiorum Petri;
  • Walking around and watching wild horses at Campo Imperatore;
  • Enjoying La Majella/Maiella mountain and the National Parks.

Several hidden gem spots, hillside towns or villages, not to mention the national parks all over, will ensure your lifetime travel memories after visiting, discovering them. CLIMATE in Abruzzo: The Abruzzo region has two types of climate that are strongly influenced by the Apennine Mountains, dividing the climate of the coastal and sub-Apennine hills from the interior’s high mountain ranges. The climate of the coastal areas is Mediterranean: dry summers, mild winters. In the mountains, the winters are long+cold, and the summers are mild.
